Root Canal Therapy
When decay on a tooth becomes too extensive, the nerve of the tooth and the surrounding tissue can become infected. A root canal is a dental procedure that involves removing the infected tissue in the canals of the tooth. Once the infection is removed, the canals are filled with a material known as gutta-percha and the tooth is sealed and restored to its original contours.
A tooth that has been root canal treated may become brittle or discolored. A crown is recommended for a root canal treated tooth to strengthen the tooth and maintain good esthetics.
